For mine the 1st of February marks the official start to the ‘working’ year. Sure – most of us have been at work for the best part of 3.5 weeks when it rolls around, but January still has something of a ‘holiday’ feel to it. The traffic flows, overtime is kept to a minimum allowing for spontaneous BBQ’s, we get out and about enjoying the many outdoor festivities available and there is that beautiful sense of ‘enough time’ as we mark the year off in days and not months.
Then suddenly it’s March. School’s in full swing. The year’s projects have not only kicked in, but you realise you wasted the first month of the year and are now behind the 8 ball. You wake up with that familiar niggle of exhaustion as the alarm goes off…earlier…so that you can fit 28 hours of chores and activities into your 24 hour day. Your diary is filling up at a rate of knots… sports carnivals, ballet concerts, parent teacher interviews, exam timetables, music lessons, project deadlines, reports and work trips are co-ordinated with a level of precision that a military strategist would be proud of.
Yes – another year is in full swing and despite your New Year’s Resolution to ‘keep it simpler’, 2016 is shaping up to be more high energy and super charged than any that have come before it.
What’s the one thing we have all forgotten to do?
But before you lose the year entirely to responsibilities, projects and chores it’s time to focus on THE most important thing that needs to be done now….book a holiday! Yes – it’s peak booking time as families all over Australia are reminded of how invaluable a ‘family rest break’ actually is. I say ‘family rest break’ because a family holiday is really only of value if the entire family gets a rest. And mum and dad really only get a rest if the kids are happy.
